INTRODUCTION: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a sleep related breathing disorder. It is associated with a higher risk of high blood pressure and cerebrovascular disease. Due to the health complications and lack of epidemiologic studies found nationally the present study describes the hospital discharge rate (HD) between 2019 and 2022 in Chile. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Descriptive, observational study about hospital discharge rate linked to Obstructive Sleep Apnea between 2019 and 2022 in Chile. Described by gender and age group (n=6.720). Data obtained from the national department of statistics and health. Hospital discharge was calculated and no ethics committee was required. RESULTS: The HD of the period studied was 11,96 per 100.000 inhabitants, the lowest HD calculated was in 2020 with 8,87/100.000 inhabitants. The highest HD was observed in the masculine gender having a value of 15,86 ; and in the age group of 65 to 79 years obtaining 12,1 per 100.000 inhabitants. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Lower HD between 2020 and 2021 could be explained by the decrease of hospitalizations on account of the COV-2 pandemic. The results by gender are according to international literature, anatomical, functional features, sociocultural factors and hormones could be involved. The age group with the highest HD may be owed to a higher prevalence of other chronic pathologies that can lead to a fragile health. OSA is one of the most prevalent sleep related disorders in the world, comorbidities in the general population are implicated. More research is needed to conclude the impact this disorder has in society so future measures can be taken.
