Background:Phototherapy is a useful therapeutic method in the management of various dermatological pathologies. It uses UV radiation with different wavelengths, classified as UVA, UVB and narrowband UVB. The emitted UV radiation is absorbed in the epidermis and dermis by the skin's chromophores, being a therapy with immunosuppressive and antiproliferative properties. Currently, the use of phototherapy extends to various pathologies such as moderate-severe psoriasis, vitiligo, severe atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, and even tumor pathology, such as mycosis fungoides. Aim: To characterize the patients using phototherapy in the Dermatology Service of the Hernán Henríquez Aravena Hospital (HHHA). Method: Descriptive, retrospective and observational study. Review of data from 101 patients admitted to Phototherapy at the Dermatology Service, HHHA, between the periods of September 2021 and March 2023. Results: Of the total number of patients, 55% were men and 45% women. The average admission age was 44 years old. Pathologies on admission included vitiligo (38 cases, 36.9%), psoriasis (36 cases, 35%), mycosis fungoides (12 cases, 12%), and atopic dermatitis (5 cases, 4.8%). Other diagnoses highlighted pityriasis lichenoides chronica, prurigo nodularis, granuloma annulare, and cutaneous mastocytosis, with a total of 10 cases, 10% of the total. Regarding the type of therapy used, 90% had an indication for UVB, while the remaining 10% received PUVA. Discussion: The local epidemiological characteristics do not differ from those described in the literature. The information provided is useful for further research on adherence and benefits of phototherapy.
