Objective: To interpret the characteristics of psychiatric pathologies and comorbidities presented by patients who have discharged from the rehabilitation program.
Materials and methods: Quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study. A sample of 33 patients was selected from a total of 35 patients who were discharged from the rehabilitation program at the CECOSAM public treatment center in Nueva Imperial during 2019. Data recorded in the patients' clinical records were used. The information was analyzed using an Excel spreadsheet and the analysis was carried out using statistics and descriptive measures of dispersion.
Results: The main substance of consumption was alcohol (66.67%), followed by cocaine (15.15%). Only 15.15% presented family history of substance use or psychiatric pathology. Regarding the comorbidity of substance use disorders, 75.7% did not present associated psychiatric comorbidities. Of the total sample, 9.09% presented a history of previous hospitalization due to substance use disorder. 54.55% had a history of having been in previous treatment with abandonment of the program. Regarding the reason for discharge, 36.36% were due to therapeutic discharge, 9.09% were due to administrative discharge and 27.27% were due to referral to another center, while 27.27% dropped out.
Discussion: When analyzing the results, it is evident the need to develop more studies at the national level to be able to develop a correct characterization of patients with substance use disorders and study the relationship of these disorders with psychiatric comorbidities in order to help to improve public policies regarding the treatment of these patients.
